The Go1 Team are very excited to announce that we have just been listed as one of the top 500 companies in the 2016 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific!

Coming it at 439, this is an outstanding effort from the team in what is a very competitive region when it comes to technology, and being one of only 4 companies from Queensland to make the final cut. The Go1 team are very proud of this achievement, and are already looking forward to improving on this ranking for the 2017 awards.

Awardees are selected for the Technology Fast 500 ranking based on percentage fiscal year revenue growth over three years.

This year has also seen the rise of a number of Australian companies in the Asia Pacific region, with 88 companies making the top 500!

Over the past 8 weeks, Go1 co-founder and COO Chris Eigeland has been in New York City fulfilling his duties as the Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations, culminating in presenting at the United Nations General Assembly.

During his time, in New York Chris has had the opportunity to attend a number of high-level forums covering diversity, innovation and youth, as well as being invited to speak as a part of Peace Day on Friday, September 16.

Prior to beginning his UN journey, Chris first travelled across all of the states and territories within Australia and spoke with more than 5,000 young Australians to understand their priority issues so he could include them in his address.

Now that he has delivered his address, Chris reflects on his time with other United Nations delegates, and what he learned from the experience.


“Last year the UN set the agenda for the next 15 years in terms of social economic culture development. It was increasingly clear throughout my tenure at the UN that in order to achieve the ambitious goals such as educating every person of primary to high school age in ending extreme poverty, we’re relying more and more on the largest human generation to ever exist. 

The key part of that will be how we approach the education question from a primary education perspective, rather than how we correct skills for the industries and economies in the future. One area that the UN is relying more and more is private sector and start-ups working to solve this problem.”

What do you think you learned from being in and around in that environment for 3 to 4 weeks throughout that process around government officials and so on from a range of countries all over the world.


We need to remember that government and international government systems like the UN don't have all the answers, and relying on small enterprises to think outside the box can really help to solve some of these problems.

The disparity in trying to provide this sort of opportunity is proving to be more challenging for UN members in areas of the world.”

Chris Eigeland: enabling young Australians to change the world

Chris Eigeland is not your average startup co-founder. Earlier this year Chris was selected as a finalist for this years Queensland Young Achiever Awards, as well as being appointed as the 2016 Australia Youth Representative to the UN, which is an amazing achievement. Now after months of traveling around Australia to prepare, Chris is now in New York, where in the coming weeks he will be presenting to the UN General Assembly.

As a part of the preparation for his United Nations address, Chris travelled to each of the states and territories across Australia and spoke with more than 5,000 young Australians to understand which issues they viewed as priorities, so he could include them in his address.

Some of the key issues raised by the Australian youth that will drive Chris's address include education, unemployment, mental health, gender equality and indigenous equality.

In order get these youths starting thinking about how they might be able to start addressing these issues themselves, Chris also ran entrepreneurship workshops with over 1,000 young Australians, from which more than 300 solutions were developed and will be presented during the UN General Assembly.

Over the past few weeks Chris has had the opportunity to attend a number of high Level Forums covering diversity, innovation and youth, as well as being invited to speak as a part of Peace Day on Friday September 16. His Peace Day address touched on enabling the youth of the world to develop the education systems of the future through the use of improved technologies.


"Everywhere we look, there is work to be done. It will fall to our generation, many of whom are now in their late teens and early twenties – to build the institutions of the future, to build the education systems of 2030, and to build the grassroots foundation of a peaceful domestic and international environment. It will fall to our generation to take up the mantle, and pick up where the last has failed." 

Chris is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly during the week of October 3.

Go1's Chris Eigeland to address the UN General Assembly

The Go1 team are excited to announce that they have been selected as a finalist for the 2016 Premier of Queensland Export Awards.

The awards celebrate business excellence in international trade and recognises exporters from across the state who compete in 12 industry categories.

Go1 was chosen as one of four finalists in the digital technologies category.

After starting the year with a bang, Go1 has already been recognised for their achievements by several organisations, including being named in the global Disrupt 100,  Anthill’s Smart 100 Readers’ Choice Winners 2016, and being listed as a finalist in the First National Bank’s 2016 Business Innovation Awards.

“We’re extremely honoured and proud to be named as a finalist in the 2016 Premier of Queensland Export Awards,” Go1 CEO Andrew Barnes said.

“It is a testament to the hard work and commitment by everyone at Go1, and recognition of what we have achieved in a short span."

Go1 named finalist in 2016 Premier of Queensland Export Awards

The finalists for the First National Bank 2016 Business Innovation Awards have been announced, and we are excited to share that Go1 has been selected as one of the finalists!

These awards are set up to acknowledge the efforts of those entrepreneurs embracing many challenges to create world-class, innovative companies that continue to find unique ways of doing business.

Finalists are chosen based on the scalability of the business, and the business idea is as important as the business owner in terms of the assessment. Three selection criteria hold sway, development impact, business innovation, and the fit with FNB and Endeavor.

Nicole Sykes of FNB Business Strategic projects says, “We believe that innovation is a key component of business success, in terms of longevity, growth, and scalability. This is in line with our philosophy of creating a better world through high-quality job creation. This belief laid the foundation for the creation of the awards."

“Without innovation, no business can compete successfully, whether on a local or global stage. What we have seen with the awards is that both new and established businesses can benefit, because they are challenged to think bigger. This mindset can only benefit businesses and the overall economy in the long run.”

Go1 listed as FNB 2016 Business Innovation Award finalist

Go1 co-founders Andrew Barnes and Chris Eigeland recently got the opportunity to sit down with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull over breakfast to discuss all things Go1 and the Australian innovation boom!

Turnbull was in Brisbane local startup hub River City Labs to announce that the government would be pledging a further $15 million to the Australian startup sector, and met with a select group of local startups to discuss the improvements in the industry and highlight their growth to the greater business community.

Turnbull said the funding will be used to increase the number of incubators and accelerators, support existing programs, attract experts-in-residence to the country and give access to up to $500,000 in funding to these organizations.

“If we really want to boost the quality and output of our entrepreneurs we can’t ignore co-working,” he says.

“Most startups are in co-working spaces and don’t have access to the facilities on offer in incubators or accelerators. StartupAUS would like to see the program expanded to help co-working spaces fund accelerator-style opportunities to help their resident companies grow quickly.”

“If we want to build a thriving tech startup sector in Australia we’ll need more of these sorts of practical policy commitments as well as some ambitious, big picture thinking.”

Andrew and Chris had the opportunity to discuss how Go1 has been thriving across world after starting the business, and continuing to operate, out of Underwood just outside of Brisbane.

This news is music to the ears of startups all over Australia, as the government is providing more and more support to bring their innovative ideas to life and give them a chance to take their businesses worldwide.

The list is compiled by the world’s leading entrepreneurs, investors and business people and takes into account over 1 million companies, with Go1 coming in at 81 on this years list.

If you think that being a co-founder of a startup is a busy job, you are right. There's a lot to deal with on a daily basis and having any free time is a rare thing. Chris Eigeland has not only embraced his role as a co-founder of Go1, he's out in the community continuing his hard work and spending time developing and supporting programs that will help to shape Australia for future generations, and is now being acknowledged for his efforts.

The finalists for this years Queensland Young Achiever Awards have just been released, and we are very proud to announce that Chris Eigeland has been listed in the group nominated for the BB Print Leadership Award. Chris' continuous work in helping to improve the community and educate young people across the country has seen him listed alongside some amazing nominees for this years awards.

Earlier this year Chris was also appointed as the 2016 Australia Youth Representative to the UN which is an amazing achievement. Speaking about his role with the UN, Chris says:

"The UN Youth Rep role is an unparalleled opportunity to consult with young Australians from all walks of life, on issues that are of international significance. The global landscape of business, politics and development is undergoing radical change as a result of new (and arguably democratising) technologies – however this change isn’t occurring evenly, even within a country such as Australia. The role, for me, is about understanding the most pressing challenges facing Australian youth, and linking them back to the opportunities that are arising for generation Y – in entrepreneurship, innovation and social policy."

In this role Chris understand that he now has the opportunity to show the world what the youth of Australia are capable of achieving, and he's looking forward to getting down to business.

The Smart 100 awards showcase the top 100 innovative companies in Australia. After receiving hundreds of nominees every year, Anthill Magazine narrows down the field to find the top companies in Australia who will then attend the Smart 100 awards.

Anthill Magazine founder James Tuckerman explains how the Smart 100 work: "With over 700 nominations and 100 innovations profiled and ranked each year, the SMART 100 Index is the largest awards program dedicated to innovation in Australia."

The Smart 100 awards are set to take place in Melbourne in June where the top companies will be announced. There will also be a portion of the awards dedicated to the most popular voted company.

Members of the Go1 Team are passionate about helping the community, and one of the ways we do this is by participating in events to help raise money for organisations doing amazing things! We are excited to announce that this year we will have two team members participating in this years Helping Hoops 24 hour Charity Shootout!

Scott Cooper and Rachel Farac of the Go1 San Francisco office will both be shooting as many free throws as they can in 15 minutes to raise money for Helping Hoops. The shootout takes place on June 25th and 26th and is based in Melbourne, Australia with participants from all over the world taking part in the event on their local basketball court as Scott and Rachel will be doing.

Helping Hoops is a Melbourne charity running free weekly basketball programs for over 1,000 disadvantaged and disabled children every year. The programs aren't just basketball related, they also focus on building self-esteem, aiding social cohesion, discipline and leadership skills. Helping Hoops provides a place of safety and stability where these kids can prove to themselves and the world that they are not limited by what society expects of them. They are not expected to develop the next LeBron James or Kevin Durant, but we do hope to develop these kids into best people they can be.

The Go1 team will be raising money that will go towards supporting Helping Hoops in running their programs across Melbourne for the twelve months.
