Recently, Go1's Dan Fish, Director of Strategy & Partnerships, attended the Microsoft Future Now conference at Carriage Works in Sydney. 

Here, Dan shares a couple of quick highlights from the event.

"Speaking at the conference was a fantastic selection of Microsoft heavy weights and guests. Kicking off proceedings was Microsoft Australia Managing Director Steven Worrall. He spoke passionately about “people first, technology second” and paid a heartfelt tribute to two Microsoft Partner representatives who lost their lives in the terrible Christchurch terrorist attack. 

Following Steven was Brad Smith, Global President for Microsoft, who passed on great insight and thinking from within the business over the last 2 decades. Closing proceedings was an experienced panel of speakers providing real insight around how to win the battle for talent in today’s ever evolving society. The panel was chaired by Narelle Hooper (Editor of Company Director) and included Chuck Edward (Corporate VP, Head of Global Talent Acquisition at Microsoft) and Sara Caplan (PwC Australia’s National Skills Lead and CEO of PwC’s Skills for Australia).

Genevieve Bell — Anthropologist, Professor Engineering & Computer Science at The Australian National University and former Intel exec.

Genevieve delivered an incredibly engaging talk called ‘The future is now: the intersection of culture and technology’. The discussion broke down into some key areas which is discussed in further detail in the full article.

Amy Wheldon is a Customer Success Manager in Go1’s US Operations team. Read her insights into the importance of embracing future technologies after attending the recent Learnapalooza event in Seattle. 

I recently attended an exciting Learnapalooza event that was held in Seattle on March 28th. 

Hosted by HackingHR and Learnapalooza, the event brought together a panel of experts in artificial intelligence, augmented reality, data analytics, HR recruitment and more.

Go1’s Caroline Brant, Global Learning Strategist, was part of the panel for the Upskilling Yourself: Future Technologies Panel & Resume Hacking Workshop. 

The conversation was centered around dispelling the false sense that artificial intelligence, learning automation and ed tech are something for the future. Automation and artificial intelligence are fast becoming an integral part of operations at most large corporations. 

Over 40% of large corporations are already using automation for training and HR. The ever-widening gap between companies that embrace automation, and those that don’t, will grow as learning automation and artificial intelligence are more commonly adopted according to the HR Exchange. 

HR needs to move as fast as other departments to embrace the future and adopt new technologies. This is not hard and if it is, it shouldn’t be. Technology exists today to allow us to do this. Automation and upskilling is not just the future – it is today! 

If you haven’t invested in modern learning tools you risk lower retention, skill gaps, lower productivity and employee dissatisfaction.  

As Caroline said during the panel discussion, “We need to be able to deliver the right content, at the right moment, to today’s workforce so they can solve the immediate challenge they are facing.”

It was great to hear from all the panellists on the day and to see the passion from everyone involved in this dynamic industry. It’s certainly an exciting time for L&D!

Go1’s Caroline Brant, Global Learning Strategist in the United States, will be speaking at an upcoming event in Seattle on Thursday March 28th.

Hosted by Learnapalooza, Caroline will be part of a panel of experts in artificial intelligence, augmented reality, data analytics, HR recruitment and more. 

The Upskilling Yourself: Future Technologies Panel & Resume Hacking Workshop, running from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, is a great opportunity for participants to learn critical skills to navigate and design immersive and adaptive learning environments. 

During the three-hour session, panelists will discuss why it is critical that all professionals involved in people development and related fields become conversant in new learning design, disciplines, and tools so they may meet future workforce needs – for both the people and organizations they serve.

Caroline and her fellow panelists will provide attendees with a clear direction for learning designers and HR managers to integrate new technologies into their skill sets. Following the panel discussion, attendees will be able to ask questions about how these tools and disciplines will impact learning design and jobs in the near future.
