We're very excited to announce our first Melbourne Learning and Technology Meetup and our second Brisbane Meetup!

Learn the underlying blue ocean concepts through a pre-workshop online Blue Ocean 101™ course, at your own convenience, anytime and anywhere.

Learn to apply these blue ocean concepts and methodologies during the three-day workshop, which will be led by world-class blue ocean practitioners, who have more than 15 years of global experience. Follow a step-by-step and collaborative process to create your own blue ocean move through the online creative workspace - Blue Ocean Studio™.

At the end of the workshop, you and your team will have an executable blue print and will have achieved a collective buy-in for this blue ocean move.

You will be awarded a Certificate of Completion for successfully completing your pre-workshop self-directed online Blue Ocean 101™ course, as well as a Certificate of Achievement for successfully creating your first blue ocean move during the three-day workshop.

Upon completing Blue Ocean Explorer™, you will be invited to become a member of our Blue Ocean Community™, a global network of blue ocean practitioners.

A full record of your project work will be available for download from your interactive Studio and you may also continue to use your Blue Ocean Studio™ after the workshop for as long as your subscription is valid.

Go1 to host first Brisbane Learning and Technology Meetup

This week, Go1 hosted the first WomenHack event in Brisbane and we had an unforgettable and fun night!

The exclusive WomenHack event focuses on connecting talented female software engineers, UI/UX designers, and product managers with opportunities at tech companies around the world. At Go1, we believe it is important to empower women working in traditionally male-dominated industries, such as the tech and startup industries and we are always keen to talk to them about our opportunities at Go1.

Around 50 talented women joined Go1 and other attending companies to get to know each other better over wine and canapes. The atmosphere was relaxed and very inspiring as a diverse group of women exchanged experiences, interests and their diverse reasons for attending the event.

The event itself was opened with a keynote speech by Go1’s Head of Product Liz Hardie. Liz has held a number of senior roles in the Product world and has been a role model to many aspiring and successful women in Brisbane. 

Here at Go1, we have been working proactively on initiatives to increase our number of female employees and we are very proud to have managed to increase the total number of female employees by 11% within the last 5 months. At present, 30% of our total workforce is made up of women and we will continue to increase the number to be part of female success stories. The Go1 Product team is a pioneer in this regard with 62% of the team made up of women and 33% from a non-English speaking background.

After the opening keynotes, it was time for the ‘speed dating’ part of the night - every employer and female attendee had five minutes for a meaningful conversation.  

It was absolutely fascinating to learn more about everyone’s background and interesting experiences to date. Sometimes we got caught up talking about our passions outside work or what we are looking for in an employer. The five minutes were up far too quickly but hopefully, this was only the first chat of many to come!

Next month, Go1 is hosting WomenHack’s Brisbane event, and we’re very proud to be involved in such a great initiative.

WomenHack is a community that aims to empower women in tech by facilitating access and transparency in the industry. The global initiative aims at bridging the IT gender gap and giving women additional opportunities to succeed in tech.

At Go1, we believe it’s important to empower women working in traditionally male-dominated industries, such as the tech and startup industries.

In both of these areas, there has long been an imbalance of gender, with the number of male employees outweighing women. Like the founders of WomenHack, we believe tech companies must take positive action to address this gender imbalance.

That’s why we’re so pleased to be working with WomenHack to host this event – and encourage you to get involved!

The WomenHack events are invite-only recruiting events, focused on connecting top female software engineers, UI/UX designers, and product managers with opportunities at tech companies around the world.

Attendees can expect to meet up to twenty companies in two hours, through rapid five-minute interviews in a pressure-free, fun environment. This way, you’ll get the chance to meet with the top tech companies in your city – but more importantly, the top tech companies that believe in diversity and are committed to advancing women in the workplace.

Host and sponsors will also present five-minute keynotes at the beginning of the event, to address the women in tech community and share more about their gender diversity initiatives and efforts as an organisation.

Fiona Lau, WomenHack’s Manager of Strategic Partnerships & Global Growth, says that women in tech, itself, is a pretty niche market – so the organisation tends to invite a good mix of candidates with varied backgrounds.

“We target mid-career women in tech who are developers, product managers, and UI/UX designers with at least an average of three to six years of experience. We definitely do see some women in tech in different specialisations, from testers to security to marketing/sales as well as junior talents … since we're in the business of enabling women in tech and giving them access to opportunities, we try to be as open and accessible to all.”

The WomenHack Brisbane event is taking place on Tuesday June 19th, from 7:00pm to 9:30pm.
