We've previously shown you how to get started with the basics of course creation, including creating a new course, setting up your modules and adding videos. In this article we will be taking a closer look at some of the other content types within the Go1 portal and how they can be set up for your next course.

Below is a quick and easy step-by-step on Document, Interactive Files and Assignment creation.

Once a course and module have been created, building them out further is simple. Let’s start off by taking a look at Document creations.

A Document can be created from the Edit Course page by hitting the “+ Add Item” within a module and selecting “Document” from the drop down. From here you can add a title and hit “Create”. Once a document shell has been created hit the “Open” button and upload your Document via the Browse or Drag options.

After the file has uploaded, hit “Save & Exit”. This will allow you to view the document from the learners perspective.

As of late, learning trends have have been focused around creating modules that contain both traditional learning items - such as documents - along with interactive files. Interactive files are great at assisting in learner engagement and retention. Like documents, interactive files are simple to upload.

The shell of an interactive resource can be created in a similar fashion to a document. To begin hit the “+ Add Item” button and selecting “Interactive File ” from the drop down. From here you can add a title and hit “Create”. Once the shell of the interactive item has been created hit the “Open” button.

When in the shell, an interactive file can be uploaded via the “Interactive File” tab. Zip files in the form of SCORM, tincan, xAPI, AICC are all accepted. A preview image can also be added via the “Preview Image” tab by simply browsing and uploading or dragging and dropping. The selected image will show prior to the start of the interactive file.

Within the interactive shell, you will also notice a “Results” tab. This tab can assist with monitoring learners viewing status...ie In Progress, Complete, etc. the file.

Once a learner has navigated through a few learning items, a facilitator may want to test a learners knowledge via a quiz or assignment. An assignment will provide the learning parameters on which a learner will be assessed.

Assignment shells are created in the same way as document and interactive shells. Assignment shells are created by hitting “+ Add Item”. From here, a facilitator can add a title and hit “Create”. Once the Assignment shell is created, hit the “Open” tab to outline the requirements of the assignment, which can be submitted by the learner via upload.

Like the interactive items, facilitators also have the ability to review Assignment statue via the “Results” tab.

And just like that, you’ve created your own content. Adding your own content to a course really is as easy as the click of a button, which can help you to personalised your training material and get your team excited about learning new skills.

How to add documents, interactive files and assignments to courses

Improving communication with learners, simplifying course booking, and being able to save and schedule learning headline our updates to the Go1 Platform as we start October. We also have several other improvements that will help to improve the way that you use Go1 as both an administrator and as a learner.

Configure your email communication with learners

Everyone likes to trigger notifications with their learners in different ways, so we have added some new configuration tools where you can set up when you would like your users to be notified based on actions.

To make it easier for your users to book a course, we have update the interface for collecting payments and securing a booking. A user can now book one or more seats and easily make payments via this updated form.

Both learners and their administrators can now schedule learning. This means you can save learning content for completion on a set date, or without a date, then when you visit the Scheduled tab under the My Learning section in your portal, you will see all of your saved content.

Administrators/Assessors can view all details of course enrollment

To provide administrators and assessors with more in depth look at how their users are progressing through courses, we have added some new tools that display the progress of elements within each course.

- Admins can now set a due date for enrollments
- Improved user experience for small device users
- Content authors can now specific set a "Suggested completion" timeframe for learning items
- Users can view enrolled courses from marketplace in My learning page
- Admins can edit and delete their saved reports

Improved booking, scheduled learning and more in our October update

From purchasing and assigning content, to managing groups and enrollment reports, and assigning due dates. Plus we’ve got a stack of new tools that will help you to save time and streamline the way that you deliver learning material.

Simplified Course Purchase and Assigning Process

Being able to purchase and assign content to your users has now been simplified. You can now enter your credit card details to purchase credits which can be assigned to users to be redeemed for courses, or users can request that their manager purchase a course for them.

In this update we have improvements to the Administrator dashboard to include a new tab for Group. Under this section you can quickly see and manage all of the groups in your portal, including editing details, adding and deleting groups, and filtering options for those with large numbers of groups in their portal.

“Parent” and "Assessor" fields available on enrollment reports

When reporting on on enrollment courses, you can now see the Parent and Assessor fields. This allows Administrator to view learning items within a report along with the Parent course, or course in which the learning items is located to provide a more in depth reporting ability on content.

Improve the way you access learning content with our mid-September update

Making it as simple as possible to gain access to the learning content that you need is critical in any training program. As a part of our mid-September update we have made several improvements to streamline this process, and allow your users to get the content that they want quickly and easily.

Making it easier for Administrators to distribute learning content and track user progress is the focus of our September update as we roll our improvements across the Go1 Platform. You can now view results for individual learning items, purchase credits which can be allocated to user for course purchases, allow users to request the purchase of courses, define multiple module dependencies for your learners, and more.

A results page for LIs will now be available

Results for individual learning items can now be viewed under the results tab in the learning Resources under the Explore tab. You can also manually update a users status by click on Edit under the Actions column in the report.

Module dependency will now be able to support multiple requirements

Sometimes you may want your users to completes several modules before progressing through their learning program, and with this update you can now set multiple modules that are required to progress, rather than just one.

Allow admin to enroll a user into an event if start date has passed

There is now an easier way for users to leave groups

You can now add a share option when posting note in "All" group

Being able to quickly and easily brand your learning content to match your business is high on the priority list for organizations across the world. At Go1 we allow our Administrators to control how their portal will look providing options to customize login screens and images, portal banner images, color schemes and more.

Our latest update takes this a step as you can now add your company logo to the Menu Bar in your Go1 Portal.

Adding your logo to the Menu Bar in your Go1 portal allows you to having your branding throughout the portal while your users are accessing their learning content, and also acts as the home button, returning the user to their dashboard when clicked.

To add a logo to your Go1 Portal Menu Bar follow the steps below:

Head to the top right hand corner of your screen and click on your name, then select Portal Settings in the dropdown menu. On the right hand side of the screen select the Themes tab, this is where you can update any of the images, and color theme associated with your portal.

Scroll down to the Dashboard Icon section of the page, and click to upload your image. For best results your image should be a, minimum for 50 x 50 pixels, and all files must be less than 5MB. Once you have uploaded your image, click Save changes at the bottom of the screen, and you’re done!

Administrators can now bulk assign users to a manager

When importing your learners into the Go1 Platform, you can now save time by setting up the import to include assigning users to a manager. Simply navigate to your User dashboard, click Add User, and select CSV file. Here you can download a template if you don’t already have one - this will ensure your data is in the correct format, or upload your CSV file. You can then preview your data prior to clicking Import.

Groups are a great social learning tool in Go1, and now you can further customise the display of your Groups by including a course image. When you are creating a new group, or editing an existing group, you will now see the Group Image option where you can add the image of your choice to represent your group.

Manually record a learning event or course completion

With the introduction of in-person or live learning events to courses, we have now made it easy for an individuals to record having attended a live event or having passed a course. This provides the user with more flexibility in how they manage their learning. This can be done by going into a users profile, selecting Learning Records, and completing the form as shown below.

Try our new administrator tools in the Go1 mid August update

Want to make your course stand out in the Go1 Course Marketplace? Try this cool new feature that allows you to set a GIF as your course card image.

Animating your course card means that as learners are browsing through courses in the marketplace your courses will stand out from the pack and generate more interest than a regular image, and below we’ll show you how to create your own GIF files.

If you want to use a GIF as a course card image, the first thing you need is a GIF. There are 2 options here, you can either create your own GIF, or use an existing file.

For those using pre made GIF’s the best place to start your search is on Giffy. It’s important to ensure that you have the rights to be able to use the GIF though, so please do your research to avoid trouble later on.

Creating your own GIF’s is a simple process and can be used to highlight some of the information that is included in your course. There are only 2 steps involved that anyone can complete:

Step 1: Use screen recording software to capture a video of the action on your screen. There are a stack of free programs out there to help with this, our favorite is Quicktime. Simply click, File, New Screen Recording, and start creating your GIF. This will generate a video file of your recording.

If you wanted to use a series of images, there are many programs online that allow you to compile images into video or GIF format too.

Step 2: head to EZGIF and upload your video to convert to GIF. You can also edit your file here, and speed up the animation if desired. Click Save, and you have your GIF ready to go.

Following the sequence in the GIF shown earlier in this post, navigate to the My Learning tab in your Go1 Portal, click on courses, and then select the course that you’d like to update.

Once the course is open, click on the Edit Course button to open up all of the editing options. From here we can click on the Manage Images button in the middle of the header image. At this point you will be give the option to update both the header image, and the course image.

You can choose to update one or both options; you can have a GIF as a header image if you like, but in this case we click on the course card image, and then select our GIF file, and then click Update.

Now if we navigate back to our My Learning page and look at our courses, we can see that the GIF has now been added as the course card, and stands out from our other courses.

Improving learner engagement is the theme of our Go1 update for August. Proving learning or training material is great, but unless your users are engaged and learning from what they are reading or watching, you can find yourself at risk. Tracking in person events, forced video watching and control over content variables headline our August updates, along with a stack of other improvements.

Force learners to watch a video to the end

You can now select an option that forces your users to watch a full video before being able to mark as completed and move to the next learning item. This is a great tool for boosting your learner engagement and now available on youtube and uploaded videos.

Administrators can change default content variables

Being able to control what your users see after they enter their portal can help to get your learners moving through their content much quicker. Some Go1 content now comes with the ability to customise for your own company by setting variables.

Improve learner engagement with the Go1 August update

When it comes to the top features that users want in their Learning Management System, there is one thing that is at the top of the list every single time. That’s right, we are talking about reporting, because what good is having an awesome learning platform if you can’t track how your learners are progressing, or how they interact with your learning content.

With the introduction of Go1 2017 we wanted to make it quick and easy for users to be able to display information about their learners and content, in the format that works best for them. As a result, the advanced reporting capabilities for Administrators in Go1 have been simplified, and anyone can create a custom report in a matter of seconds.

Here’s a quick guide on how to use our new reporting tools

Within the Administrator section of your portal, you can jump between different types of information using the tabs at the top of the reporting field. The main area of interest when it comes to reporting lies within Users, Courses, and Enrollments tabs.

Under each tab there are a unique set of options that you can adjust to generate reports showing the data in your portal based on the information held within that tab. This data can also be displayed in a range of formats including a table, histogram, bar chart, pie chart and more.

We’ll now take a deeper look at some of the more common reports you may use:

Display users who have completed or passed courses

One of the most common reports run is to view students who have, or have not complete their assigned courses. In this example we will show you how to display all of your students that have completed courses.

Head across to the Enrollments tab in your Administrator dashboard. Click the Filters button, and then click on the Status option, followed by Completed. This will now display all of the students that have completed courses.

Another option to try out here is to search by users that have passed a course. This can be done by selecting Pass, and then Passed in the filter settings. You can also run this for Not Passed if you want to see who is yet to complete their assigned courses.

To refine this even further you can also add an additional filter to this process to display results by course too.

If you’ve like to try out a more visual representation of how many of your users have passed their assigned courses, you can also display the information as a pie chart.

Simply click on the Table button next to the Filter button, and select Pie Chart, here you can choose the information to display, and we want to show Pass, then click Apply.

This report allows the Administrator to filter out their users by their role. This could highlight all learners, Administrators, Managers, or in this case we are wanting to see which of our users are course Assessors in the system.

Start by clicking the Users tab, then selecting the Filters button, from here we can select the types of filters to apply, in this case, Role, and then we select the type of role to display.

Our final example will allow you to see how many users you have currently enrolled in each course that you have in the system.

While still on the Enrollments tab, once again click the Table button next to the Filters button. This time we will display course enrollments using the Histogram option. After selecting Histogram, we can then choose how we would like to display the information on the chart. We will select an interval of Year to show our all time results in this example, but this can be broken down to show enrollments over a set time period.

Secondly, we want to select how to group the results and in this case we want to use the Title option to display by course title. We can now see the number of enrollments per course in the last year.

As you can see in the examples above, creating your own custom reports is a very simple process and there is a very wide range of options available to ensure that you can view the data that is important to you.
